About these transportation crosswords
The transportation crosswords cover the road, the rails and the sky. Things That Go is easy and made for kids. It asks about cars, buses, trains, planes, boats, trucks, bikes, tractors, helicopters, submarines, ambulances and ferries, often with clues about how a vehicle moves or sounds.
All Aboard the Railroad is medium and covers locomotive, caboose, engineer, freight, station, platform, monorail, trolley and depot. Aviation is hard and asks about aileron, fuselage, cockpit, runway, altitude, turbulence, rudder and avionics. They suit older students, railroad and airplane fans, and anyone who likes a good trivia challenge.
Solve them online on a phone or tablet, or print them with the answer key. Things That Go works well in a preschool or kindergarten unit on vehicles, on a long car or train ride, or at a birthday party for a child who loves trucks. For your own version, choose vehicles by place, such as all the vehicles on a construction site.
Tips for your own puzzle
- Sort by where they go: TRAIN and TRAM ride on rails, BOAT and FERRY float, and PLANE and HELICOPTER fly.
- Use construction vehicles: BULLDOZER, CRANE, DIGGER and TRACTOR are favorites with children and are easy to clue.
- Add sounds as clues: “Goes choo-choo on the tracks” leads to TRAIN.
