About these animal crosswords
These animal crosswords cover a wide range. All About Birds, Down on the Farm and Into the Jungle are easy and made for kids, with robins and owls, cows and pigs, and monkeys, toucans and tigers. The clues are short and use everyday words.
Baby Animals and Groups is medium. It asks for a joey, a cygnet, a fawn and a foal, and for group names such as herd, pride, flock and pod. Endangered Species is hard and meant for older students and adults, with panda, pangolin, vaquita, kakapo and axolotl, plus words like habitat and poaching.
Solve them online on a phone, tablet or computer, or print them with the answer key. They suit a classroom warm-up, a quiet activity after a trip to the zoo or a farm, or a science unit on animals and conservation. Tips for your own puzzle
- Mix long and short words: ELEPHANT interlocks more easily when short words like GNU, APE and OWL sit beside it.
- Keep to one habitat per puzzle, for example the savanna with LION, ZEBRA, GIRAFFE and CHEETAH, so the theme feels complete.
- Clue with a fact about the animal: for KOALA write “Eats eucalyptus leaves,” and for CHEETAH write “Fastest land animal.”
