About these human body crosswords
The human body crosswords start with the basics and grow harder. My Body Parts is easy and made for kids, with hand, foot, nose, ear, eye, mouth, teeth and finger. The Human Body is medium and covers organs and bones: heart, brain, lungs, liver, kidney, spine, ribs, elbow and even the femur.
Anatomy Terms is hard. It asks for the clavicle, scapula, sternum, patella, pancreas, esophagus, cornea, aorta and cerebellum. The clues explain what each part does instead of only naming it. That makes the medium and hard puzzles useful as a review before a quiz, as a warm-up at the start of a health unit, or as a break for nursing and first aid students.
Solve them online on a phone, tablet or computer, or print them with the answer key and hand them out in class. Younger children can start with My Body Parts. To make your own, focus on one system, such as the skeleton, the senses or the digestive tract, and write a short clue for each part.
Tips for your own puzzle
- Pick one body system: SKULL, RIBS, SPINE, FEMUR and PELVIS all belong to the skeleton and cross nicely.
- Use a surprising fact: the FEMUR is the longest bone in the body, and the STAPES in the ear is the smallest.
- Match clue and answer: for KIDNEY write “Filters the blood and makes urine,” not just “an organ.”
